Holy Metropolitan Church of Timios Prodromos - Agios Ioannis

General description

In 1864 the Greek Orthodox Community of Kavala acquired the right to build a district outside the fortress of the city and its first concern was to build a church for the religious needs of the faithful, the church of Timios Prodromos, in a place that was a countryside for the inhabitants of the city inside the fortress and a pilgrimage dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi.

All areas and features related to performing religious acts (icons, furniture with candles, pray spaces, etc.) are always at the viewing zone and at the reach of wheelchair users too.

Note: There are not appropriate signs directing the visitors to it.

Caution: The walking surface has non-tolerable distortions (longer than 0,5 cm, higher than 2 cm).

Note: The entrance is not sheltered.

Parking space(s)

The parking is allowed at all times.

There is a parking fee.

The automatic ticket dispensers are in a walking distance and their slots (for money, cards etc.) are placed at a height between 90-120 cm (appropriate for wheelchair users too).

Note: The facilities for serving the users (e.g., reception/ticket kiosks, restrooms, etc.) cannot be reached and accessed by a wheelchair drivers/passengers.

Note: The spaces reserved for vehicles of persons with disabilities are not properly marked.

At sheltered spaces there are no appropriate provisions for wheelchair users.

There is no parking space for accessible vans with back or side loading.

Bins, water fountains, etc. are at appropriate heights for wheelchair users (within a zone 90-120 cm high, and never beyond 40-135 cm).

The parking spaces where the driver's exst is at the side of the vehicles zone have close by ramps/dropped kerbs to access the sidewalk.

Note: The sidewalks do not have tactile guides for blind.

There is in general a free/safe moving route available, at least 90 cm wide.

Buss stop

Buss stop name: Agios Ioannis (buses: 1 byron, 4 garden city-TEI, 5 Agios Loukas, 1New Hospital- Perigiali)

The bus stop can be accessed with a wheelchair (pathway free of obstacles, such as steps, narrow passages under 90cm, etc.).

The stop is close and properly connected to the TGSI network for the blind.

The bus stop is sheltered (e.g., for rain, sun, wind).

The shelter is at least 1.4 m wide.

There are transparent panels used for wind protection, but they do have coloured bands at least 15 cm wide at a height of 1.4 - 1.6 m from the ground.

Seats for waiting passengers do exist.

The seats are user-friendly (up-right, separate arms, colour contrasted).

By the standard seats there is also free space (at least 85 cm wide) that can be used by wheelchair users.

The space reserved for wheelchair users is not properly marked (e.g., with the International Symbol for Access).

The dimensions of the boarding area at the front of the stop are at least 1.50x1.50m.

The bus can approach the sidewalk in order for it to be almost adjacent to the kerb.
