A few (more) words about Kavala

General description

Many historians, journalists, architects and other experts rank Kavala among the most beautiful and picturesque cities in the world, because of its unique architectural physiognomy. Small and large buildings climb the slopes of Mount Symvolos, composing a unique image that one encounters only in two places on earth. Kavala is rightly characterized by many as another Monte Carlo, but also as an ideal place for holidays with the sea and the mountain in full composition. Kavala is a modern and authentic Greek/Mediterranean/European city that has several attractions and interests that make it an ideal city to relax, explore and enjoy the natural, historical and cultural wealth it offers. The cosmopolitan image of the city is composed both by the elements that make up the natural and the built environment, as well as by its unmateakable cultural heritage and the people who live in it.

Kavala, due to its geographical position, with its natural port, unique from Thessaloniki to Alexandroupolis, with its dynamic hinterland and the always dominant position in the Balkan reality, plays a central role not only in the narrow boundaries of its geographical area, but also in parts of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in islands of the North Aegean and in addition in areas of other neighboring mainly Bulgaria countries,  who want to have economic activity and cooperation with Kavala. This characteristic makes Kavala a center of service, with a large part of its population dealing with this sector of the economy.

Due to the intense tobacco trading activity in the 19th and first half of the 20th century, the city of Kavala became a financial center for the wider region. For large banks it is the headquarters of their regional services, while brokerage firms, design offices and financial advisors use it as a landmark city for their activities.

The Kavala of today is distinguished for its picturesque relief landscape, its flavors and market, its entrepreneurship, its firsts in the competitions, the culture it produces, its lacy shores and its history that still remains alive. It is a large tourist center and its region has tourist characteristics comparable to the most beautiful summer and winter destinations of Greece, but also of Southern Europe, with Thassos and the coastal zone of the rest of the prefecture characterized by the variety of landscape, clean seas and the necessary infrastructure.
