Nestos Delta Information Center
The Nestos Delta Information Center is located at the eastern end of the Municipality of Keramoti and is housed in a newly built ground floor building, with a specially designed courtyard that gives access to people with mobility problems. At the Information Center, the visitor has the opportunity through a variety of approaches to understand the structure, function and values of the habitats of the Nestos Delta. The photographic exhibition is developed in six (6) thematic units, with easy to understand texts and rich photographic material. The exhibition area is supported by a projection room, with a capacity of 30 people, giving visitors the opportunity to watch a movie and slides about the Nestos Delta area.
Access is easy, either by private car or by intercity buses of KTEL of kavala prefecture (about ten minutes walk from the center of Keramoti - Port).
It is worth noting that at the end of 2020, the Municipality of Nestos completed the construction of a new fully accessible to people with disabilities ecotourism route for the observation of flora and fauna in the National Park of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace, in the area of Keramoti. The trail is designed to attract visitors to the surrounding area, while offering infrastructure friendly for people with disabilities. The route starts from the Information Center and extends northeast through the adjacent forest with a total length of about 610 m. The area is of great environmental interest and it is estimated that the implementation of this mild ecotourism route will increase the number of visitors to the Municipality of Nestos.
This initiative is part of a series of actions implemented by the Municipality of Nestos in the framework of the project "Reinforcing protected areas capacity through an innovative methodology for sustainability", codenamed "BIO2CARE" (Website: www.bio2care.eu), in collaboration with the Democritus University of Thrace (Head), the National Confederation of People with Disabilities (E.S.A.meA.) and the other partners in the project. The BIO2CARE project is part of the Interreg V-A Programme "Greece–Bulgaria 2014-2020" and is co-funded by the European Union and national funds of the participating countries.
