Tower of Apollonia

Ο Πύργος της Απολλωνίας βρίσκεται στη νότια πλευρά της παλιάς εθνικής οδού Θεσσαλονίκης – Καβάλας, ανάμεσα στις εκβολές του ποταμού Στρυμόνα και στον κόλπο των Ελευθερών. Το όνομά του μάλλον το πήρε από τη λανθασμένη εκτίμηση της εποχής για την ακριβή θέση της αρχαίας πόλης της Απολλωνίας. Το κτίσμα χρονολογείται περίπου τον 14^ο αιώνα και είχε στρατιωτικό σκοπό. Φτιάχτηκε για να ελέγχει τις κινήσεις σε όλη τη θαλάσσια περιοχή, από την Καβάλα (τότε Χριστούπολη) έως το Άγιο Όρος.

Αν ακολουθήσει κανείς το χωματόδρομο που βρίσκεται κοντά στον πύργο, θα καταλήξει σε μία παραλία που προσφέρει απέραντο γαλάζιο, ηρεμία και γαλήνη.
